Harriet brings both a passion for material studies and a background in art history to her daily conservation practice. She has conserved artworks on paper spanning from the 15th century to the present day: from Old Master drawings to the pastels of the Impressionists; from illuminated manuscript cuttings, Japanese prints and Indian miniatures, to the complex constructions of outsider artist Martin Ramirez and the collages and mail art of pop artist Ray Johnson.

Harriet has published widely on various artists and their materials and techniques, with a particular focus on 19th-century artists including Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt, Paul Gauguin, Odilon Redon, and James McNeill Whistler. Harriet has been a visiting museum scholar at the Getty and an instructor at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts during which time she stressed object-based study and hands-on learning. She lectures internationally and is an active member of the American Institute for Conservation, the International Institute for Conservation, and the Print Council of America.
